Purpose and Content of this Blog

Purpose

The purpose of the blog is to showcase current and past work from my exploration of communication in theory and in practice. With the work featured, I hope to clearly demonstrate my growth and trajectory as a communicator in both a public/professional sphere and a private sphere.

Content

Links to content are to the right of this post.

The theme of the research I have done over the course of my education is clearly focused on international development, social justice and modern social issues. In this way, applying communication practices to my studies has allowed me to see issues more clearly and communicate my own stance with added authority and insight. I have been able to practice communication tools such as persuasion, applying ethics, critique, and evaluating sources - tools which appear throughout these research pieces. Through this content I hope to illustrate the milestones that have brought me to my current understanding of communications as it applies to my understanding of education, response/criticism and research work as well as reveal my overall career focus on communication for social change.

Additional Links

I have provided additional links to my professional writing portfolio, LinkedIn Profile and personal blog as well. These sources illustrate a more expanded application of communication studies as it applies to my work experience and private processing.

Applying Communication

Our world is sewn together and pulled apart through communication. Relationships can grow deeply or be severed with the right words, businesses can expand and profit or see decline because of their communication strategies.  Our understanding of other people, other cultures and other countries is built by what we see, hear and experience.

Through communication we build our understanding of the world and through the study of communication we seek ways to make that understanding more vibrant and accurate. Studying communication allows us to analyze our own efforts and accept another’s. Studying communication opens the door to understanding what influences our worldview and expands our ability to grasp information. Studying communication gives us the skills and tools to be more effective and more understanding.

My goal is to take my personal study and experience and make communication work for the greater good. By telling the stories that inspire hearts I hope to help people connect more deeply to each other and the world. By sharing the reasons for adapting our communication styles, I hope to help people communicate better with each other. By applying the skills and tools I have learned to my own relationships, I hope to have better, deeper, more long lasting friendships. In each of these situations communication is key.

Here you will find milestones of my journey of understanding and applying communication theories, techniques and assignments. Professional documents, educational submissions, and personal stories will highlight my own development as a communicator and student of communications.
